Why Where Your Dog's Supplements Are Made Actually Matters

So, what makes Canadian-made supplements different?
It starts with how Canada regulates pet health products at the government level. In Canada, supplements like ours fall under the Veterinary Health Product (VHP) program, overseen by Health Canada's Veterinary Drugs Directorate. This isn't a voluntary stamp of approval — any VHP manufactured, imported, or sold in Canada must be formally notified to Health Canada at least 30 days before it goes on sale.
That pre-market review matters. Health Canada evaluates and authorizes these products before they can be marketed and sold, with regulatory oversight focused on safety, efficacy, and quality. In other words, our products go through a government review before they ever reach your door.
There's also a strict ingredient standard. Every medicinal and non-medicinal ingredient included in a VHP must appear on Health Canada's List of Permitted Substances before it can be used in a formulation. It's not enough for an ingredient to be popular or widely available — it has to be specifically reviewed and authorized by Health Canada. That's a meaningful bar.
And the manufacturing process itself is held to a high standard. Any company that manufactures, packages, imports, or stores veterinary health products must comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), including regulations around premises, equipment, personnel, quality assurance, stability, and record-keeping.
What's on the label is just as regulated as what's inside the bottle
In Canada, you can't just put whatever you want on a pet supplement label. Every claim must match exactly what was reviewed and approved by Health Canada in the VHP notification, no creative liberties, no vague promises. And misleading language? Not allowed. Labels must be truthful and include the full picture: ingredients, dosage, intended species, warnings, and directions for use. It's a level of label integrity that we think every dog parent deserves, and honestly, should come to expect.
